Home Master Water Filter Reviews: The Best Water Filters for Your Home (2024)

Updated on:
March 7, 2024

If you haven’t had the chance to invest in a Home Master filter yet, it’s time to change that.

After spending four months researching Home Master filters, interviewing plumbing contractors and professionals, and analyzing customer feedback, I’ve selected the best Home Master filters out of the following categories:

  • Whole-house filter systems
  • Under-sink filters
  • Countertop filters
  • Faucet filters
  • Garden and hydroponic filters

Here are the best models in each category.

Whole-House Filtration

What sets Home Master’s whole-house filters apart are oversized filters that allow for super-strong flow rates and minimal filter replacement.

Home Master Water Filter for City Water (HMF3SmgNCC): $655.75

This mighty filter uses three filtration stages to banish common pollutants and toxins in city water, such as chlorine, chlorine byproducts, heavy metals, rust, bacteria, viruses, and some concentrations of fluoride.

Pros

Home Master’s whole-house filter is well ahead of its competitors in terms of filtration technology and efficiency.

This one uses a four-layered, multi-gradient depth sediment filter designed to take out every last solid particle in your tap water ranging from 1 micron to 25 microns. Unlike typical sediment filters that last no more than a few months, this filter will serve you for over 12 months before giving up, and replacements cost around just $35.

The next stage features a nanofiber filter that traps particulates as small as 0.2 microns. Nanofibre is the latest technology that not many brands are offering right now, but Home Master is providing it at an affordable rate. This filter targets all the disease-causing bacteria, including giardia, cryptosporidium, viruses, pathogens, and cysts lurking in the water.

The nanofiber filter also reduces up to 50% of fluoride concentrations when used at a slower flow rate of about 5 GPM. Lasting around one year, the replacement will cost you $179.

The last stage combines catalytic carbon media and KDF58 to treat the good ol’ chlorine and its byproducts like chloramine. It also tackles lead, copper, mercury, and iron. This filter cartridge is designed to filter about 95,000 gallons of water, which will last roughly 9–12 months for a medium-sized family, and the filter replacement will cost you only $120.

With an impressive flow rate of 10 GPM, you’ll get fresh-tasting water from every tap in your home without a dip in pressure. At an annual cost of around $1,000, you can drink water from any faucet in your home.

I liked that this Home Master whole-house filter comes with all the equipment you need to install it and mount it on a wall. It took me an hour to get it up and running. If you’re not very handy, I suggest calling a plumber.

Cons

Home Master whole-house filter is not a great option if your primary goal is to remove fluoride from treated city water. Although it does reduce fluoride concentration to 50%, it may not be enough for some users.

Another downside is its big equipment that can’t fit easily in tight spaces. This unit is about 24 inches wide and 25 inches tall.

Home Master Water Filter for Well Water (HMF3SdgFeC): $579.00

The Home Master Filter for Well Water is specifically designed to filter pollutants found in well water, including iron, manganese, chlorine, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), total organic compounds (TOCs), herbicides, and pesticides.

Pros

Home Master well-water filter system also features three filtration stages, the first being a powerful four-layered sediment filter to trap everything bigger than one micron. This sediment filter offers three times longer life and dirt-holding capacity than average sediment filters of the same size.

In the second stage, Home Master uses a radial flow iron-removal technology that effectively removes contaminants without disturbing the high flow rate. This filter can remove up to 3 PPM of iron and 1 PPM of manganese. The filter life depends on the iron and hydrogen sulfide concentration and your daily water consumption. The replacement costs around $125.

For reference, if your water has 3 PPM iron, this filter will last up to 26,000 gallons of water.

The last stage features a radial granular-carbon filter, which removes chlorine odor, taste, and cloudiness, producing fresh and delicious water. It’s so powerful that you won’t need to replace it before the 100,000 gallons mark. The replacements are priced at $100.

This whole-house filter provides a whopping 15 GPM flow rate for medium to large families. It’s easy to install if you have some basic plumbing knowledge.

Cons

Using this filter alone is a bad idea if your well water has microbial contamination. You might need to pair it up with a UV filter.

Another issue with this whole-house filter is that a high hydrogen sulfide concentration in your water can largely reduce the life of its iron filter. You’ll need to fork out $125 every three to six months to swap the expired iron filter.

Under-Sink Systems

Home Master under-sink filters are well ahead of their competition because their advanced modular design eliminates the common problems users face, like canister bursts, leakages, and mold formation inside the filter housing.

TMAFC Artesian Full Contact Undersink RO System: $329.95

Imagine drinking water that passes through seven stages of rigorous filtration and is also infused with delicious minerals. Sounds refreshing right? Home Master’s Artesian Full Contact filter does that.

Pros

The Home Master Artesian uses a robust proprietary technology to take out every last contaminant without losing efficiency in the long run. The filter comprises seven stages that banish 99% of chlorine, chloramine, VOCs, TOCs, and heavy metals, including lead, mercury, copper, microplastics, and even fluoride.

These stages include a five-micron sediment filter that traps dirt, silt, and debris, followed by a top-quality catalytic-carbon media that traps stubborn chlorine byproducts.

The next stage is the heart of the system—a 0.0001 reverse osmosis filter—that strips your tap water of all the harmful foreign particles. The one thing that makes Home Master’s reverse osmosis different from the rest on the market is it uses loose-style membranes to allow for a greater flow rate and to compensate for not having a storage tank.

The last stage features Home Master’s Full Contact Artesian remineralization filter, which infuses the lost beneficial minerals back into the water. This filter mixes minerals at two points: one when water enters the storage tank and the second when it pours out of the faucet. The minerals include 30–60 g/L of calcium and magnesium combined.

Home Master’s modular design and push-in fittings cut the maintenance and cartridge replacement time in half.

One of the most significant benefits of this RO under-sink system is the Home Master Fast Flow RO! Kit combined with the optional permeate pump, which reduces the commonly noticed creep and high water wastage in an average RO system. With this arrangement, you’ll get a 1:1 waste water to clean water ratio, which is superb.

A set of sediment, carbon, and artesian filters can last around 12 months, costing $79.95. Home Master’s RO filter lasts about three to five years and costs $56.

I like that you can further outfit your under-sink system with components like antimicrobial tubing, a faucet color that matches your kitchen hardware, a bigger RO storage tank if you’ve a big family, an upgraded reverse osmosis membrane rated for 70 gallons per day, and a refrigerator kit.

Cons

The loose-style reverse osmosis membrane may be good for a fast flow rate but decreases the cleaning efficiency. If you have microbial contamination, you might want to attach a UV filter separately to ensure you drink safe water.

Another downside is it takes up a lot of space under your sink and doesn’t fit easily into tight spaces.

TMHP HydroPerfection Reverse Osmosis System: $529.95

TMHP HydroPerfection combines Home Master’s patented Ultra technology, Artesian filters, and permeate pump to produce the freshest and healthiest water in your tap.

This under-sink filter is a great option for private well owners with high iron concentrations.

Pros

This under-sink filter is an upgrade of the Home Master TMAFC model. It features nine stages of filtration, including a UV sterilizer and KDF 85 media to zap all the microbial contamination and iron in the water.

Unlike the TMAFC model, this filter can clean up to 1 PPM of iron, making it more suitable for well water. Plus, it’s registered and approved by the EPA to kill all the pathogenic microorganisms in water.

It uses the same RO membrane as TMAFC but pairs it up with two additional stages to clean out untrapped microbes and iron content in water.

In addition to a single catalytic carbon, it features two coconut shell activated-carbon membranes to ensure your tap water tastes clean and fresh.

The last step mixes the delicious calcium and magnesium minerals in appropriate amounts, slightly increasing the alkalinity of water and boosting the health benefits.

A set of all the filters, except the RO filter, will cost you about $129.50 annually.

Cons

The Home Master Hydroperfection filter system may be too expensive for some users.

Countertop Systems

If getting an under-sink filter is not feasible for you because of space constraints, Home Master’s minimal countertop filter is your next best option.

Jr. F2 Elite: $92.50

For users who are on municipal water and want to clean out the objectionable chlorine smell, lead, fluoride, and other heavy metals, Home Master’s Jr. F2 Elite is designed specifically for these pollutants.

Pros

Jr. F2 Elite features five stages of filtration, including activated alumina, catalytic carbon, coconut shell carbon, KDF 85, and compression pads to trap chlorine, fluoride, lead, iron, VOCs, hydrogen sulfide, herbicides, and many other toxins commonly found in city water.

One of the best things about Home Master filters is they treat chloramine and trihalomethanes using a blend of catalytic carbon and KDF media. Ordinary carbon filters cannot remove these stubborn toxins.

To make sure your Jr. F2 Elite effectively takes care of fluoride in water, replace the filters every three months or 500 gallons, whichever comes first.

It took me just 15 minutes to install this unit over my counter using the detailed guide sent by Home Master.

Lastly, it has an exceptionally high flow rate. I could fill my water bottle in mere seconds.

Cons

As with most countertop filters, this filter can only fit onto the faucet with a removable aerator.

Another issue is the filter’s boring housing style. It may not be a big deal if you’re more concerned about functionality than aesthetics.

Jr. Plus: $82.50

If you’re on well water, worry not, Home Master has just the right countertop filter for your kitchen tap.

Pros

The Jr. Plus filter’s one-micron carbon-block filters can remove 98% chlorine, VOCs, TOCs, and 99.9% disease-causing microbes such as cryptosporidium and giardia. Plus, it can filter out about 98% of lead in the water.

Its carbon filter is paired with a 15-micron sediment filter that traps all the dirt and particles in well water, which also helps improve the life of the carbon filter.

This filter typically lasts around 2,500 gallons or one year, whichever comes first. But highly contaminated water can decrease its life-span.

It’s compact and easy to install, making it a decent solution for people living in rentals or those with tight counter spaces.

Cons

Home Master doesn’t pay much attention to its countertop filters’ design and aesthetics. The Jr. Plus is no exception.

Faucet Filter

Home Master’s mini faucet filters typically produce 700–1,500 gallons of fresh and clean water free of common pollutants in city water, as opposed to typical faucet filters on the market which can clean about 500 gallons at most.

MINI Plus Sink-Top Filter: $52.50

Best for portable city water containing chlorine and lead, MINI Plus features a strong carbon block filter that traps chlorine, VOCs, TOCs, herbicides, pesticides, and other chemicals in the water. It uses a lead removal media with a carbon block to effectively remove lead.

Pros

If you have chloramine in your water you might need to go for Home Master’s 1CCB model, which features a one-micron catalytic-carbon filter. This easy to install compact faucet filter cleans 99% of dirt, herbicides, pesticides, VOCs, and THMs. If you have lead in your water, you might want to opt for the MINI Plus model of this filter.

Home Master’s faucet filters are easy to install and maintain. They last around 1,500 gallons (or one year), depending on the water quality, which is 20% longer than most faucet filters.

Its NSF-certified replacement filter costs only about $19.95.

Cons

MINI Plus cannot remove total dissolved solids, including calcium and magnesium in water. If you have hard water, consider passing your water through a water softener first.

As with all the Home Master units, this one also doesn’t include a filter-life indicator, so if you plan to filter out lead, you better replace the filters every six months to reduce the risk of drinking lead.

Garden and Hydroponic Filters

Home Master’s HydroGardener series features strong RO filters that remove all the toxins that can hinder the growth of your plants, garden, and hydroponics.

HydroGardener Pro Remineralizing RO System: $299.95

HydroGardener’s RO filter uses sediment, carbon, and RO filters to remove 98% of contaminants, including toxic chloramines and heavy metals. Its robust RO filter traps all pollutants bigger than 0.0001 microns.

Pros

To make water more beneficial for hydroponics and plants, HydroGardener adds 15–30 grams per liter of calcium and magnesium minerals in clean water. With this filter in place, you won’t have to splurge on mineral supplements for your hydroponics.

HydroGardener’s reverse osmosis system is different from typical reverse osmosis systems on the market because it has a KDF 85 pre-filter that banishes iron, manganese, and hydrogen sulfide.

Moreover, traditional reverse osmosis filtration systems produce slightly acidic water with almost negligible mineral content, which is harmful to hydroponics. On the other hand, the HydroGardener unit delivers pH-balanced water that is perfect for the health of your plants.

This unit comes with under-sink fittings and has a modular design.

Cons

Some users report that the hose pops off and doesn’t fit tightly, which causes leakages.

Methodology

For those of you wondering how I analyzed Home Master filters, here’s the research methodology I used.

Step 1: A list of Home Master filters

As with all my reviews, I started my research by listing the most popular filters with the highest rankings. I achieved this by searching Home Master filters on Amazon, Walmart, and Target. I consulted some of my family members and friends just to make sure I was on the right track.

Step 2: Product analysis

Before I could start ranking the products on my list, I needed to know which filtration technology is currently the best on the market and what other factors one should look for while looking for a water filter.

Here’s what I looked up:

  • Difference between carbon filters, KDF 85, and reverse osmosis
  • Filter life
  • Flow rate
  • Certifications
  • Quality and durability

Step 3: Online reviews

The next step was to read online reviews and testimonials left by users on the internet. I surfed Facebook, YouTube, and review websites such as TrustPilot and Angie’s List to see what people had to say about their experience with Home Master.

Some were satisfied with their purchases, while others needed a refund. I collected all the information I could through reviews and moved on to the next step.

Step 5: Interview with real customers

Online reviews can be fake, so I called a few professional plumbers in my area and contacted customers who were willing to share their experiences with me. This gave me a deeper insight into how Home Master filters stacked up against other filters on the market.

Step 6: Interview with the company

I had a few questions about Home Master’s certifications and its patented technologies, so I called the company and asked directly. Representatives were quick to respond to my queries and even followed up via email.

Step 6: Test drives

Of course, I needed my own test results to judge the filtering abilities of Home Master filters. To carry out my tests, I invested in some filters and rented others. I also got myself an at-home water testing kit.

Not only did I test the water, I also noticed the flow rate, ease of installation, ease of maintenance, and overall filter quality. This testing phase took me two months, but it was worth it.

Step 7: Ranking

Now that I had enough knowledge about Home Master filters, I selected the best ones in each category of water filters, taking into consideration the following factors:

  • Filtration efficiency
  • Filter life
  • Flow rate
  • Test results
  • Ease of installation
  • Ease of maintenance
  • Customer reviews
  • Cost
