Industrial Pollution

Some industrial waste, including heavy metals, is incorporated into sewage systems, and thus makes its way into the water cycle with liquid waste discharge. The World Water Assessment Program estimates that in developing countries, 70 percent of industrial wastes are dumped untreated into waters where they pollute the usable water supply.

Other industrial waste disposal methods include burning or burying contaminants in landfills. These methods can also pollute when buried contaminants seep through the earth to enter groundwater systems or when atmospheric contaminants are incorporated into precipitation like acid rain.
